The Walter Taylor South Action Group committee has reviewed the community questions submitted and consolidated these questions for all candidates to answer in writing prior to our community meeting.
 
The committee needed to balance the number of questions with topics covered to allow time for questions at the end of the community meeting from the floor.  Some specific questions have been incorporated into more general questions that all candidates should be capable of answering.
 

What are your plans to address such cross-government issues as the Jerrold Street underpass, the Chelmer TAFE sale, Alan Fletcher Research Station sale, the proposed ambulance station, public housing such as that near Quarry Road, future use of Oxley Creek Common and surrounding areas, the Sherwood railway bridge and the Corinda Railway bridge?

What specific plans and implementation timetable do you propose with regard to green space, suburb density and liveability and residential amenity in our ward?

What is your proposed plan for reducing traffic volume and or delays on Oxley Road including the bottlenecks at the Corinda Railway Bridge, the Walter Taylor Bridge, and the Oxley Road/Sherwood Road intersection?

What do you think are the best policies to develop with respect to flood-prone areas, given that Queensland flood mapping will make clearer the vulnerable areas, and how will you work to achieve implementation of those policies - over what time frame?

What restrictions will you consider to prevent exploitation of the BCC’s Temporary Local Planning Instrument by homeowners whose properties have not been flooded or even been close to flooding, even though they may be in a suburb where flooding occurred?

What is your policy on public transport for our immediate area and how and over what time frame will you work to achieve implementation of that policy?

How will you work to ensure that community-use facilities such as sporting grounds, retirement villages or nursing homes, schools, and public housing fit in well with the community, especially with regard to applications for rezoning of those properties for other uses?

How will you address Council’s failure to follow best practice community consultation (i.e. as per IAP2 fully developed model attached – http://www.iap2.org.au) and therefore ensure that respect for neighbourhood plans is maintained (rather than having non-consultative changes such as “Corinda as a community hub” rather than Sherwood, 5-storeys where 3-storeys were planned, the Sherwood Bus Depot, and the Nosworthy Park bikeway)?
