Walter Taylor South Planning History

In July 1994, Council commenced a Local Area Planning Program involving the preparation of nine Local Area Plans over a three year period.

• From 1994/95 - Sandgate, East Brisbane/Cooparoo, and Stephens District (Annerley, Fairfield, Yeronga, Yerrongpilly);
• From 1995/96 - Bulimba, Moorooka and Kiraby Districts; and,
• From 1996/97 - Ashgrove, Clayfield/Wooloowin and Walter Taylor South

The Walter Taylor South Community Steering Group played a pivotal role in commencing the preparation of the Local Area Plan.  The group facilitated meetings, wrote a questionnaire and drafted a report recommending the preparation of a local area plan for Walter Taylor South.

The Steering Group continued to be actively involved in the local area plan preparation throughout the Council's commitment to the process.

Councillor June O'Connell, Ward Councillor for Walter Taylor South and Opposition Leader, as Chair of the Steering Group, also played a major role throughout the preparation of the Walter Taylor South Local Area Plan.

However most importantly, the contribution made by the local community is gratefully acknowledged.  Many residents and business owners participated in the planning process by atending public meetings, workshops and displays, and responding to the questionnaires and newsletters distributed throughout the area.
