Updated Advice (now outdated - see below) from NBN consultant on applying for upgrade to HFC technology

Although it has been suggested that  individuals, groups, and areas can apply for upgrades, I've been informed by email with an NBN representative that, if we are to be supplied with HFC (Hybrid Fibre Coaxial) - as is most of our area - current policy does NOT permit ANY application for an upgrade.

I plan to ask about this again at an informal catch-up arranged by Graham Perrett for himself and a few local residents  to meet with  Mr Justin Thomson of NBNCo to discuss NBN connection options. I am profoundly concerned if we are shut out of any possibility of an upgrade if we are consigned to the HFC plan.  We will be meeting at 1:00 pm this Saturday at Tocco Italiano, 80 Oxley Rd, Chelmer.

Updated Change in Advice: Applying for upgrade to HFC technology

Recently Graham Perrett kindly arranged for a representative from NBN to come to talk with a few residents who were concerned about NBN consultants' advice that "current policy" was NOT to permit applications for upgrades by recipients of HFC.  We were assured that, in fact, applications for upgrades WOULD be permitted for HFC recipients. (After this meeting, a consultant who had previously advised me otherwise wrote to say: "I have checked for you and work is currently in progress to make Technology Choice available in HFC areas.") I received confirmation in writing after the meeting that, after the technology has been allocated, it will be possible to apply through the Tech Choice program as described in the following link:

https://www2.nbnco.com.au/residential/learn/network-technology/technology-choice-program.html

I note in reading the link that "'HFC Individual Switch' is currently undergoing further investigation through consultation" -  though the other options for switching would seem to be clearly available.

Thanks to Graham and to Justin from the NBN for the meeting.
