PROPOSED SHERWOOD ROAD BUS DEPOT

Residents may have received a copy of Cr Nicole Johnston’s Statement to Council distributed at the BCC Neighbourhood Planning session that a large number of local residents attended on Thurs 6th August. This was the first time that residents became aware of the proposal to build a large bus depot at 496 Sherwood Road. Council has just purchased this eight-hectare block of land that has been vacant since 2007 when a warehouse on the site was destroyed by fire. Cr Johnston was registering her concerns about this proposal and went on the record that she does not support the bus depot in this particular location.

A meeting was held on Sat 15th August at the Sherwood RSL to discuss this issue and was attended by a large number of council and state politicians from both sides of politics. The meeting was chaired by a representative of the Sherwood State School P&C. Attendees included Lord Mayor Campbell Newman, Cr Quirk, Cr Prentice, Cr Bourke, Cr Sutton, Cr Dick, Cr Abrahams, Cr Sutton., and Ms Atwood MP amongst others. This indicates the degree of interest in this topic by our politicians as they are very aware of the extreme concern being shown by local residents.

At this meeting, a Brisbane City Council flyer was distributed advertising several information sessions on the Sherwood Road Bus Depot to be held this week. The flyer is reproduced in full overleaf. . It has not been possible to ascertain whether any further distribution of this flyer has been made. Notices advertising the meeting have been erected on Sherwood Road and Railway Terrace. This is very short notice for consultation on such an important issue.

This area is currently in the final stages of developing a Neighbourhood Plan. This proposal has not yet been included in these plans and has not been formally discussed. We urge all residents to attend information sessions and put your views on the proposed depot and Park ‘n Ride facility. Please pass on the details to others in the area. It is very important that as many residents as possible have an opportunity to make their views known.
