Are you getting what you pay for?

It seems the local government election tactics have now started with this flyer dropped into local letterboxes late last week.

If you are looking for factual information rather than the political spin I'd suggest a number of sources, including the minutes of the Council Meetings which can be found here.  Minutes of meetings older than 12 months no longer appear on the website, which is why you can see extracts of minutes on this website.  You will then be in a position to make up your own minds on the veracity of political flyers.  Of course, you can always turn up to the public gallery of the council chambers and see for yourself what is not shown in the minutes.

"Are You Getting What You Pay For?
In the last 12 months, your local councillor Nicole Johnston, has filed 17 complaints against the Chairwoman of Brisbane City Council

  • 15 of these complaints were ruled "frivolous and vexatious" by Council officials. Source; Brisbane Times, 13 May 2011
  • Two complaints were upheld by the review board.  These were for minor technical breeches - including that the Chairwoman moved the minutes of the previous meeting in the wrong order!  Source: Brisbane Times, 13 May 2011
  • Each complaint can cost ratepayers up to $5400 to investigate. Source: Brisbane Times, 13 May 2011

I see the LNP is already starting the mud slinging with this flyer.  For those who don't know 66-68 Bowen St, Spring Hill is LNP QLD HQ.  I haven't seen all the alleged 17 'frivolous' requests, but I have read several  council session transcripts.  In my opinion the LNP have acted in a vindictive manner ever since they expelled Nicole from the LNP after she voted along community lines in regard to several projects, the Sherwood Bus Depot being the most prominent.  I don't live in Nicole's ward (just across the boundary), so have seen her in action quite a few times and have been impressed with her sincerity.  I hope Tennyson Ward residents do not give much creedance to this disgraceful tactic by Nicole's former party.
